Made by Hand, Made with Love
Sarah Welch Pottery is a little pottery workshop in the heart of the San Luis Valley in Jaroso, Colorado. Over 20 years ago Sarah and her husband settled in this little rural community bringing their arts and crafts with them. After earning a degree in art/ceramics, Sarah was eager to raise her young family and start making and selling pottery. Sarah Welch Pottery was started as a one-woman operation; as the kids grew so did the business. Until the kids were towering over mom and the business needed to hire help. Sarah Welch Pottery now sells a wide variety of pottery nationwide online, galleries, boutiques and wholesale.
Out of this wide range of items distinct new brands were created:
Copitas de Mezcal
Bronze Pottery
Hidden Garden Pots
A variety of fine handcrafted barware;
A range of traditional anniversary gifts;
Handmade pottery for the home garden oasis.

The Story of Copitas de Mezcal
My introduction to copitas was through a request from a customer for a special order of them, about 10 years ago. Copitas, ‘little cup’, is the drinking vessel used for Mezcal liquor. I decided to put them in the shop, and they were very popular with retail customers, shops, restaurants, mezcalerias, bars and tequila /mezcal brands. We then thought of launching an Etsy store that would focus not only on copitas, but also barware in general – Copitas de Mezcal was born.
Since opening, we have made thousands of copitas for the world – personalizing those with cute messages, wedding dates, logos of restaurants and tequila brands. This little shop can personalize one single copita to thousands. We expanded our offerings to include jarritos, stemless wine glasses, whiskey glasses, shot glasses, wine chillers, wine coasters, tapa dishes, and cigar ash trays. While this little pottery has grown, the its principals have not changed which is superior craft, attention to detail and great customer service. Whether it is to one customer who need that special single piece or a large tequila company that need thousands to promote their brand. Everyone’s project is important to Sarah Welch Pottery and Copitas de Mezcal.

The Story of Bronze Pottery
Here at Sarah Welch Pottery we create and make all our glazes. It takes a lot of formulating and testing to come up with a new one. Every year we try to add one or two new glaze colors to our palette. About 6 years ago, we created a beautiful bronze metallic glaze and began to offer it on some of our products.
We quickly found that customers were buying these as traditional wedding anniversary gifts for the years of 8, 9 and 19. This bronze metallic glaze soon became a best seller and we expanded the range of pottery we offered with this glaze color. We also added options to have the year on the bottom of the piece as well as custom personalizations. Since then, our shop has become a beacon of the promise of love and commitment. One of our favorite things is to see the sweet heartfelt messages that spouses and well wishers include with their gifts. Vive l’amour!

The Story of Hidden Garden Pots
It was a few years ago that we began to have a real interest in indoor gardens and plants. As a pottery shop, we couldn’t help but start making the pots that these plants would go in. We also became interested in germinating the plants and began making the germinating dishes too; from there we went down the rabbit hole of all things plants.
We decided to share these pots and created the brand, Hidden Garden Pots, that focused on all these fun pottery plant related items. It gives us a great excuse to keep on making and exploring while sharing this passion with other enthusiasts.
So, while Sarah Welch Pottery is growing with more brands, the ‘root’ principals have not changed. That is superior craft, attention to detail and great customer service. Please contact us with any questions about the pottery and plants.
